We set up our family farm 25 years ago with the specific intention of being at the forefront of free range egg production. We like to think we have succeeded. And given that our 80 acres form part of the beautiful countryside of the Exe Valley we also think we have been extremely privileged.
The business was established as a partnership between John and Mandy Widdowson (pictured above) and John’s in-laws Brian and Gay Grimston. The entire family—including the Widdowson daughters Nicola and Lucy—have played their part in the life of the farm but John, with the backing of a dedicated workforce, now has day to day responsibility.
One of the free range egg industry’s most respected figures he was influential in establishing the British Free Range Egg Producers Association and served as its vice-chairman for over a decade. He has also been a member of industry bodies including the RSPCA’s Freedom Food advisory group on free range.
But he is now firmly focused on Exe Valley Eggs.
We’re proud of what we have produced here and enjoy welcoming visitors, particularly schoolchildren who can learn at first-hand how good food is produced.
