The Devon Foodie Godmother, Lulu Greenhalgh-Jones, talks us through the expanding gin market and the various gin accessories on the market.

Gin is booming, everyone knows that and that trend looks set to continue. Over 40 million bottles of gin have been sold over the past 12 months, did you know that’s enough to make 1.12bn gin ‘n tonics. I think it is fair to say that as a national our passion for Gin Glorious Gin is quite simply not slowing down! We’re hooked! Devon isn’t missing out on this Gin thing either, we in Devon are making some of the highest quality Gin on the market. With outstanding Gins such as Wicked Wolf, Atlantic Spirit and Hudnott’s Blackberry Gin we are more than spoilt for choice in just Exmoor never mind the rest of Devon. So it’s a good job we really are a nation that LOVES our Gin.

The Gin wave the nation is currently surfing is showing stats of Gin sales surpassing the £1billion mark at the end of last year. Incredible! It’s official, us Brits really are obsessed with the juniper-based spirit.

As a result of the Gin uplift, everyone is making Gin products or Gin accessories and one of my favourites is the fantastic combination of this totally glam G & Tea cocktail infusion tea pot set & botanical gin infusion tea bags from The Present Finder. Could there be a better gift!?

Gin is undeniably the drink of choice of the millennial drinker, but why? Well easy, it’s packed with natural ingredients and every year it’s getting more experimental, Gin just kept moving forward. This elegant drink packs a visual punch too, drinks are instagramed with everything from edible flowers to an array of gorgeous colours. Gin is glam!

Some of the UKs Gin Distilleries have experienced up to a 350% increase in turnover this year that;s exciting. I think it is pretty safe to say the gin market keeps exceeding expectations and we love that. Our national appetite for new flavours, new blends and a taste adventure is fuelling the Gin industry and a whole generation of new brands and new producers with no sign of slowing in the near future.
